Been working on restoring this beautiful Calrec/AMS broadcast mixer as a little side project in recent months.
Received it as a box of individual PCBs and since have built a box for it and cleaned it throughly inside and out. (Had been stored in less than ideal conditions in the Italian countryside for a long time).
Solid BBC spec build quality and some serious Lundahl transformers make for an impressive bit of kit.
-2 Transformer Balanced Mic Preamps with direct outs (70db of gain on these - go from a lovely clean, open sound to some proper heavy distortion)
-8 Line Channels fed into the master channel
-4 Output Master Section with a transformer per output
Still some work to do on it in the form of some re-capping and generally tidying up some old solder joints but its already incorporated into the studio as a flavour machine if needed.
A massive shout out to @dj_skiatta for the mixer, we saved it from a sad end!
If anyone has any further info on the modules/the mixer in general, it would be greatly appreciated. I've found some pages explaining how Calrec & AMS merged and its relation to the BBC but some more specific data would be very handy (Schematics etc.).
Big up to the audio nerds 💎
